As previously reported, on May 10 of the current year, in Dushanbe as the result of meeting and negotiations of the highest level of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, 24 new documents of corporation were signed in the presence and participation of the heads of both states, Honorable Emomali Rahmon and Honorable Serdar Berdimuhamedov, which two of them related to the transport field.
"Joint program of activities ("Roadmap") to further expand cooperation in the field of increasing freight traffic and activation of multimodal transportation between the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Agency for Transport and Communications (ATC) under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan for 2023-2025" was signed by the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan Azim Ibrohim and the General Director of the ATC under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mametkhan Chakiev.
“Roadmap” suggests in particular:
- creation of favorable conditions, including the use of tariff preferences, in order to increase the volume of freight through the railway between the enterprise of "Turkmendemyryollary" ("Turkmen Railways") and SUE "Rohi ohani Tojikiston" ("Tajik Railway");
- holding expert meetings and identifying responsible national logistics operators between two states for organizing container transportation along the route “Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Tajikistan-Chinese border”;
- studying the possibilities of organizing an international container train on the route "Tajikistan - Europe", in transit through Turkmenistan;
- studying the possibilities of developing an end-to-end logistics service in order to increase the volume of export-import transportation of goods by rail and sea;
- attraction of transport-logistics companies to use the potential and services of the Turkmenbashi International Sea Port;
- providing favorable conditions to owners, carriers and forwarding organizations of the international transportation organizations.
Prospects for the development of international transport corridors are paid special attention and in another signed document - the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan and the "Turkmenavtoulaglary" agency of the Agency for Transport and Communications (ATC) under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan on the development of international transport transportation.
According to the Memorandum of Understanding, the sides intend to attach great importance to the development of direct economic relations between enterprises and transport organizations of both countries.
The document stressed the importance of increasing efficiency and creating new international transport corridors, including the multimodal corridor China-Tajikistan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Turkey.
As previously, the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan Azim Ibrohim told reporters “The use of the corridor is effective in terms of reducing distances and reducing the cost of transporting goods compared to existing corridors. The advantage of this corridor is the connection of Tajikistan with the People's Republic of China through the road, which contributes to the revival of the Great Silk Road and regional economic integration.”
