Penjikent


Penjikent is one of the oldest cities in Central Asia, the venerable age of which is 5500 years. The name of the city in Russian is translated as "Five villages". There is a possibility that the history of this amazing city actually began with five settlements that were once located on this territory. In the 5th - 8th centuries A.D. Penjikent was one of the most important cultural and craft centers of Zoroastrian Sogdiana. The city of that time was even called "Central Asian Pompeii" - it was so amazing and unusual.
